Citibank pays tribute to Ferdous Wahid
Citibank Bangladesh organised its annual event “Gaan-e Gaan-e Gunijon Shongbordhona” to celebrate the lifetime contributions of renowned singer Ferdous Wahid. The programme was held at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden on November 17.
Eminent musician Alauddin Ali and popular singer Habib Wahid spoke about the honoured artiste's celebrated music career.
Alauddin Ali and N Rajashekaran, Citi Country Officer for Bangladesh, presented Wahid an honorary crest, his self-portrait and a cheque for his outstanding contribution to enrich the musical heritage of Bangladesh.
Ferdous Wahid began his musical journey at a young age of fourteen and recently completed 40 years of his musical career. To pay homage to his father, Habib Wahid enthralled the audience with an outstanding performance of the song “Agey Jodi Jantam”, composed by legendary Lucky Akhand. Ferdous Wahid also joined him during the performance.
Ferdous Wahid also performed several of his hit songs including “Emon Ekta Maa De Na”, “Mamonia”, “Neel Jochona” and “Tonatuni” at the event.
In his speech, Ferdous Wahid said, “I am thankful to Citibank Bangladesh for this honour and dedicate this recognition to fellow artistes and music lovers, who have been a great source of inspiration to me over the last four decades.”
N Rajashekaran said, “Citi is privileged to acknowledge the lifetime achievements of Ferdous Wahid. His musical brilliance and inventiveness is a source of encouragement to young musicians to carry forward the legacy of pop music in Bangladesh”.
Since the maiden programme of “Gaan-e Gaan-e Gunijon Songbordhona” in 2004, Citibank has honoured several leading singers -- Nilufar Yasmin, Farida Parveen, Feroza Begum, Sanjida Khatun, Sohrab Hossain, Ferdousi Rahman, Sabina Yasmin, Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Subir Nandi, Shahnaz Rahmatullah, Syed Abdul Hadi, Mitali Mukherjee and Runa Laila for their outstanding contributions to Bengali music and culture.
Citibank Bangladesh emphasises on numerous CSR initiatives in the field of microfinance and education for the underprivileged youth, community development particularly in the fields of art, culture, music and literature of Bangladesh.
