The 2024 West Africa Food Festival (WAFEST) is heating up as the spotlight turns to the highly anticipated "Indigenous Food Competition," where culinary teams from across the region vie for gastronomic glory.
Ghana and seven other nations lock horns in a quest for culinary supremacy.
The participating countries include the host nation, Togo, alongside Nigeria, Burkina Faso, The Gambia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Sixteen skilled chefs hailing from the eight countries, with two representatives each, are set to showcase the rich tapestry of the country's cuisine in a thrilling culinary showdown.
With a focus on celebrating the diverse culinary traditions of West Africa, this contest promises to be a feast for the senses as competitors present their signature dishes steeped in cultural heritage.
The competition will be judged based on various criteria, including presentation, hygiene, and adherence to time constraints.
Two prestigious awards are at stake in this category, with winners being determined by their ability to showcase culinary prowess while maintaining impeccable standards of cleanliness and efficiency.
Additionally, an award will be bestowed upon the "Best Dressed Country," recognising the team that embodies the spirit of their nation with flair and style.
Competitors will be tasked with crafting a three-course meal within a tight two-hour timeframe. The menu requirements include a starter of either soup or salad, followed by a main dish with garnish, and culminating in a delectable dessert.
Time management will be paramount, as any deviation from the allotted time will result in deductions from the judges' scores.
As anticipation builds and the aroma of sizzling spices fills the air, all eyes are on the culinary maestros poised to showcase the best of West African cuisine.
